What we do
Four disciplines, one accountable contractor
Most contractors do one of these well and subcontract the rest. We carry all four in-house, which means one point of contact, one set of certificates and nobody to blame but us.

Commercial & industrial
Built for contractors, facilities managers and site teams

Fire & security
Fire, intruder and CCTV systems
Fire and security is a discipline in its own right, not an add-on to a rewire. Our fire detection work is NSI approved under registration NSI-000082/FS/S and BAFE registered to SP203.
That approval matters to insurers, licensing bodies and anyone signing off a building, and it means the system that protects your premises was designed, installed and commissioned against a standard somebody else audits.
Fire alarm systems
Design, installation, commissioning and certification for commercial premises, farms and homes.
Intruder alarms
Specified around the building and how it is actually used, not a one-size package.
CCTV
Camera systems with coverage planned to the site, installed and maintained.
Maintenance contracts
Ongoing maintenance available for fire, security and CCTV so systems stay compliant.
Domestic
Homes across the Borders, done properly
Domestic work is a quarter of what we do and we are glad to take it on. Consumer units, full rewires, extensions and kitchens, fault-finding, EICRs for landlords, EV chargers on the drive and solar on the roof. The same electricians, the same certificates and the same standards as the commercial contracts, just a smaller job sheet.
Agricultural
Farm electrics that cannot wait until Monday
Steadings, grain stores, parlours, workshops and outlying supplies across Berwickshire and North Northumberland. Farm electrical faults do not keep office hours, so out-of-hours cover is available for agricultural and domestic emergencies, call-out charged at roughly 1.5x the standard hourly rate.
Why WPP Electrical
Four decades in one place, under one family
WPP Electrical was established in 1985 by William Purves, starting out as a small local firm run by William and his son, David. Since the mid-1980s the company has grown considerably and is now owned and run by David and Alison Purves, with a squad of nine full-time electricians and two sub-contractors when a job calls for it.
We are a progressive company at the forefront of the industry and always looking to expand into new and exciting sectors, which is why solar, battery storage and EV charging now sit alongside the traditional electrical and fire & security work rather than being bolted on by a third party.
Every electrician on the team holds 18th Edition qualifications. We are approved by SELECT and the ECA, NSI approved for fire, MCS certified through NAPIT for renewables, OZEV approved for EV charging, RECC registered and SMAS Worksafe (SSIP) accredited for commercial site work. There is no formal written workmanship guarantee: what there is, after over forty years of trading in the same community, is a company that will always come back and put right anything it has done incorrectly.

Before you call
Straight answers to the usual questions
What are your opening hours?
The office and our squads run Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm. We are closed at weekends, though emergency call-outs are available and out-of-hours work is covered for agricultural and domestic emergencies.
Do you take out-of-hours calls?
Yes. Out-of-hours calls are answered for existing customers; otherwise the line goes to voicemail and we return urgent calls promptly. Out-of-hours call-out is charged at approximately 1.5x the standard hourly rate.
How quickly will I get a quote?
Free quotes supplied. Larger commercial and industrial projects need more design work and typically take one to two weeks.
How do you price work?
Most jobs are quoted at a fixed price. Some smaller works run on a time-and-materials basis. Deposits are required on larger jobs and are agreed case by case.
What warranties apply?
Solar inverters from SolarEdge carry a 10-year warranty, SIG Energy broadly matches it, and panels carry a 25-year warranty. For other electrical work, the warranty depends on the product and manufacturer and is discussed with you at the time. There is no formal written workmanship guarantee, but we will always come back and put right anything we have done incorrectly.
Can you carry out EICRs and produce RAMS?
Yes to both. We carry out Electrical Installation Condition Reports and can produce Risk Assessment Method Statements for virtually all jobs. We hold SMAS Worksafe (SSIP) accreditation.
